Ether J. - "I've just finished this course on Nebula and I can't praise it enough. I'm not a jazz player, but am a musician who performs in other genres. I've made learning jazz one of my top goals, but haven't made much progress. Most teachers focus on scales, chords, arpeggios, etc. I am so tired of these!! In this course, Aimee takes a musical approach by focusing on motifs. This is brilliant! I have learned so much from these lessons that I just had to write about them. I now have an approach that I can understand to do my own solos. Thank you Aimee! You are the best!"

Looking primarily at the strange music trends from the 1950s, we discuss the novelty song in its many forms - and how Mitch Miller (who helped launch the careers of Frank Sinatra, Rosemary Clooney, Doris Day and more) tried to steer Columbia Records away from the Rock n Roll craze. It'll be a walk down memory lane for many of you as we look at the influence of Lawrence Welk, Disney, Perry Como, Brian Hyland, Peggy Lee and many more greats from music history.
You’ve learned about the modes for years - but somehow Dorian, Lydian, Locrian - these groupings of notes with their strange names haven’t quite MADE SENSE for you - until now. Let’s go beyond music theory and talk about how these modes make you feel - what emotions they evoke and how you can use them in your own composition and improvising.
I asked 8-Bit Music Theory, David Bennett Piano, David Bruce Composer, Adam Neely, 12Tone, Signals Music Studio, June Lee, Rick Beato, Nahre Sol, Ben Levin, Justice Cow, and Simon Fransman (all of which have been extremely helpful friends to me along the way) to help me out with this celebration of reaching 200,000 subscribers on YouTube!
Live jazz is back! My quartet and I got to open a brand new club in San Diego, last weekend and we had a blast! Visit The Jazz Lounge if you get a chance and don't forget that you can hear all of the tunes we play on my albums (available on iTunes, Amazon, Spotify and YouTube)

Here is my take on the beautiful Erroll Garner standard for this summer Monday morning.
Some of my favorite songs are about summer, fall, winter and spring. Let's talk about some of the very best "season songs" that have ever been written.
