    Aimee Nolte Classes on Nebula

Ether J. - "I've just finished this course on Nebula and I can't praise it enough. I'm not a jazz player, but am a musician who performs in other genres. I've made learning jazz one of my top goals, but haven't made much progress. Most teachers focus on scales, chords, arpeggios, etc. I am so tired of these!! In this course, Aimee takes a musical approach by focusing on motifs. This is brilliant! I have learned so much from these lessons that I just had to write about them. I now have an approach that I can understand to do my own solos. Thank you Aimee! You are the best!"

  • Downbeat review
Looking For The Answers Downbeat Review - Aimee Nolte’s voice is beautiful, sonorous and reflective on her latest album Looking For The Answers, The singer arranged and produced every track on the album, lending a consistent aesthetic and laid-back vibe to most of the cuts here. What separates Nolte from other vocalists and composers is the poetry and storytelling quality of her compositions, with lyrics reminescent of Joni Mitchell - just minus Mitchell playfulness. “Save Me One Last Time” speaks to the bandleadeader’s seriousness as a lyricists when the theme of lost love is addressed: “If I keep on falling, I’ll be lost forever/ Save me one last time.” [ Read the full review here ]

Beware The Super Rich

Beware The Super Rich

I know I'm not the only one who has been stiffed by people who can definitely afford to pay. Just a little humorous public service announcement, cautioning you to be careful about taking gigs from the super wealthy, super frugal client. I'd love to read about your experiences if you care to share! Thanks to Joshua Payne Orchestra for the backing track!

How To Write A Chart On The Fly

How To Write A Chart On The Fly

"On The Fly" is an expression, meaning, to do something quickly, without much time for preparation or thought. Sometimes we have to write charts (a term that jazz players use instead of "sheet music") very quickly and under odd circumstances. Here is how I do that!

To The Victims Of The Carr Fire

In My Life (To The Victims Of The Carr Fire)

I grew up in Weaverville, a small gold rush town in Northern California. In late July, The Carr Fire threatened my town, and destroyed much of Trinity and Shasta Counties. There were 36,000 evacuations, 1,604 buildings lost, 8 lives taken, and much hope lost. My heart is in that place, and with those wonderful people who though they have lost much, still have each other and their memories. Photographs, taken by Jeff Dye in 2010, when the oaks and manzanitas were green and thriving, the lake was surrounded with lush forest, and the remnants of the mining town "Old Shasta" was painted with a beautiful backdrop of green and blossoms. A Musical Conversation With My Mentor, Steve Call

A Musical Conversation With My Mentor, Steve Call

From 1979-2018, Steve Call taught tuba, euphonium, jazz piano, jazz improv, and jazz history/studies at Brigham Young University. When I came to BYU to audition in 1995, Steve is the one who heard me and decided to let me in to the school with a partial scholarship. He directed The Jazz Legacy Dixieland Band combo that I was a part of for 3 years, and taught me so much about what kind of musician I wanted to be. I owe so much of what I am today to Steve.

Aimee Nolte Live At The Roasting Room (With Taylor Roberts And Justin Varnes)

Aimee Nolte Live At The Roasting Room (With Taylor Roberts And Justin Varnes)

This video is about Aimee Nolte Live At The Roasting Room (With Taylor Roberts And Justin Varnes) July 2018 Bluffton, South Carolina. I’d like to let you know I got the audio from the house mix at the Roasting Room. Unfortunately, the guitar level in the house was low and distorting at times. It wasn’t that way in the monitors that night...but anyway I’m sorry about the distortion. Also, the video switches about half way through to a worse camera and angle but it’s the best I could do. I was also borrowing a keyboard that was new to me and making me feel uncomfortable all night...but when you are traveling and gigging you get what you get sometimes. Hope you all enjoy it. It was a fun night!
